Rajasthan Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara has come out in defense of under-fire youngster Riyan Parag being thrashed left, right and center on social media. The youngster, who scored 183 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 138.64 and one half-century, was targeted for his ‘attitude’ in the past. But back-to-back games have given netizens enough cannon fodder to go after this 19-year-old. He told how he disrespected RCB’s Harshal Patel and showed his attitude towards senior player Ravi Ashwin.

Some of them said, Parag thinks he is a king, citing his lone half-century in the entire tournament.
Sangakkara, however, acknowledged the criticism the youngster is receiving and said that he will ensure that he is properly groomed when he returns for the next season.
“I think Riyan Parag, he has a huge amount of potential, and by the time we come into the next season, we will have to work him into the higher batting numbers. I see him as an early-middle-hitter rather than just a death-hitter. Looking forward to grooming you as a player of the order.”
“Because, I think he is so adept against spin as well as pace,” Sangakkara elaborated.
Furthermore, he said that RR should take a lesson from the loss in the final and not get complacent to finish as runners-up.
“Well, we have to improve a lot in all areas. If you take our batting, Jose (Buttler), Sanju and Shimron Hetmyer were huge contributors in the opening round,” Sri Lanka said at the post-match presser.
Earlier, Sangakkara had explained his auction strategy, where he said that 90 per cent of his budget was spent on depositing the playing XI.
