IPL 2022: Deepak Chahar, bought by Chennai Super Kings for 14 crores, out for most of the tournament – Report

In a major setback, Chennai Super Kings will miss out on Deepak Chahar’s services for a major part of IPL 2022, if not for the entire season. The 29-year-old continues to be a key pacer in his lineup for which the franchise spent an amount of up to INR 14 Crore. The cricketer suffered a quadrangular tear in the third T20 International against West Indies last month and it will take some time to recover; According to a report in ESPN Cricinfo, he is currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Chahar was the second most expensive purchase in the IPL auction. He was followed by Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings before CSK won him for a huge sum. Chahar was phenomenal with the new ball in 2018 and 2021 which only added to CSK’s repertoire. He can play a vital role not only with the ball but also with the bat. His recent two innings versus Sri Lanka (69*) and South Africa (54) put India almost on the verge of victory. The four-time IPL champion entered the field with his first bid of Rs 11 crore and then bagged the all-rounder along with other players with a winning bid of Rs 14 crore.

Chahar walked off the field after straining his right leg muscle during the third T20I vs West Indies. Till then, he had bowled brilliantly to remove two of the Windies batsmen – Kyle Meyers and Shai Hope.

He was in his delivery stride when he appeared to have pulled a muscle in his right leg after which he stopped in his delivery stride and sat on the ground. The physio ran towards him, but the damage was done and Chahar was ruled out of the game. He was seen leaving the field with the physio.
