IPL 2021, DC vs MI: Iyer-Ashwin heroics help Delhi beat Mumbai in a nail-biting thriller

New Delhi: A super spirited fight from Mumbai Indians bowlers went in vain as Delhi Capitals batsmen played carefully to seal a four-wicket win over the defending champions on Saturday. Delhi need more wins to ensure a top-2 spot for themselves. After Delhi restricted Mumbai to 129, he came back very quickly with four wickets. However, a small cameo from Shimron Hetmyer and a sensible partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Ashwin helped their team win the last-over thriller.

Earlier, top bowling effort from Avesh Khan and Axar Patel helped Delhi restrict Mumbai Indians to 129/8. Asked to bat first, Mumbai lost the big wicket of in-form Rohit Sharma very early on as the senior opener was sent back to the pavilion by Avesh Khan (bowling) inside the powerplay overs.

After Rohit’s departure, Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav tried to stabilize India’s sinking ship but spinner Axar Patel took the wickets of both and so Mumbai failed to gain any momentum.

Enrique Nortje was also in top form today as he was quite economical and bowled a wicket maiden which included the wicket of hard-hitting all-rounder Kieron Pollard. After this, Avesh Khan took wickets continuously so that Mumbai Indians remained on the backfoot till the end. Both Akshar and Avesh took three wickets each and Nortje was quite economical too.
