IPL 2021: David Warner reveals why he was not told why he was dropped as Hyderabad captain

New Delhi: David Warner, the former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain and star opener, was dropped from the captaincy due to his poor form and consecutive defeats to SRH. When the 14th season of the IPL began, Warner was leading the team but due to the poor performance of Hyderabad, the team management decided to replace him with Kane Williamson of New Zealand.

Subsequently, Warner was also given the bench after a few matches in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. Now in a recent interview, Warner revealed that no one even told him why he was stripped of the captaincy. He said that he has a lot of respect for the team owners as well as the sports staff. The Australian opener, however, said whenever a decision is taken, it should be taken by consensus.

“I’m not 100 percent sure how to answer this. With the utmost respect for the owners, Trevor Bayliss, Laxman, Moody and Fife, when a decision is made, it has to be unanimous. You don’t know if that person is yours. Who is going for it and who is not,” Warner told Sports Today.

“The other disappointing thing for me was not being told why I was dropped as captain. If you want to go along the lines of form, it’s difficult because I think whatever you’ve done in the past, it’ll be some weight going forward, you’ll think,” he said.

“Especially when you have played around 100 matches for the franchise, I think I had four bad games in those first five games in Chennai. It’s hard, a tough pill to swallow. There are still questions that I think I will never get answered, but you have to move on,” the star Australian batsman continued.

David Warner signed, “I would love nothing more than to represent Sunrisers, but obviously, the decision lies with the owners.”
