Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal heaped praise on veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, who was associated with the franchise this season. Punjab are trying to get their hands on their maiden IPL trophy and they have appointed Mayank Agarwal as their captain for the rejuvenation process with a new team after the IPL 2022 auction. After IPL 2014, this is the first time that Punjab looks solid on paper as they have covered almost every base with Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone and Shah Rukh Khan.
With the new season, Punjab Kings will have to sort out their batting line-up as they have three quality openers including Mayank and it will be interesting to see who will open the innings for them between Dhawan and Bairstow.
Ahead of the upcoming season, the PBKS captain talked a lot about his senior teammate and said that he has a very good mind.
“I cannot talk about the batting order right now but I can definitely say that we are excited to have Shikhar on board. He is a complete livewire, a great entertainer, a huge performer and a lot of people will feed on his energy. He is also in a place of great mind,” Agarwal told PTI.
The franchise retained Mayank to lead the team instead of the experienced Dhawan, whom they signed for Rs 8.25 crore in the auction.
Mayank also talked about the presence of several senior players in the team and said that their presence will make his job easier.
“When I am batting I am just a batsman. We have a lot of leaders and experience in the team and that makes it easy for me. I want to excel as a batsman and do what I am doing. (On the captaincy front) we have made our plans to take the team forward.”
Mayank added, “We are confident that we have a title winning team and now it is up to us players to showcase their skills under pressure and see what we can do with it.”
