Just like last two years, Apple is rumored to launch four smartphones in its flagship iPhone lineup for 2022 – Apple iPhone 14, Apple iPhone 14 Max, Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max. Although Apple is not known to reveal any information about its upcoming products, its suppliers and tipsters often reveal what we can expect from the tech giant. As per the latest report by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, the vanilla iPhone 14 may feature Wi-Fi 6E connectivity and better battery life with a new 5G chip.
According to the report, supply chain sources have revealed that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has obtained all of Apple’s orders for the 5G radio frequency (RF) chips for the iPhone 14 series. The report further suggests that chips are purported to be produced using TSMC’s 6nm process that was announced by the company last year. TSMC claims that the 6nm process for 5G RF chips can provide chips with lower power consumption that are physically smaller in size. The small size of the chip is said to create room for a larger battery.
Earlier this week, a tweet from tipster Shadow_Leak revealed some details about the vanilla iPhone 14. As per the tweet, the iPhone 14 will offer a 6.06-inch OLED screen refresh rate of 90Hz. The tipster has also revealed that the smartphone will also sport a notch. This means that only Pro models in the iPhone 14 series may get a display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
As per previous tweets by Ross Young – a display analyst – Apple iPhone 14 Pro models will have the punch-hole cutout to house the front camera and the pill-shaped cutout will feature an infrared camera for Face ID. He also suggested that we may not be able to see an under-display infrared camera until 2023 or 2024.
