Iowa Couple Turns Their Home Into Harry Potter Halloween Destination – World Latest News Headlines

A Des Moines couple has turned their home into a Harry Potter fan’s dream. Sandy and John Selby turn their garage and front yard into a haunted Hogwarts. The couple have been holding large-scale Halloween performances at their home on the northeast side of Des Moines for 20 years. Every year they choose a different theme. “So we chose Harry Potter and when we started it I only saw one movie. So a lot of research had to be done. And we don’t have a graphics design background or anything like that. We basically faked it,” said Sandy Selby. Sandy Selby says it takes over a month to fabricate the display, and is a costly endeavor. “We probably have about $2,000 worth of Styrofoam here alone,” said Sandy Selby. But the couple say it’s worth seeing the magic for those who come by subway to see the Halloween destination. John Selby said, “When you look at the kids and you see Mom and Dad having fun. It’s worth it.” I’ve always wanted a house to be big, I remember every city we lived in that always had a house that went up and out. And we wanted to be that house. And I think we have achieved our goal,” said Sandy Selby. Selby does not charge anyone to watch the Halloween show. Any donations go to the Salvation Army. Address 3720 Brook Ridge Court in Des Moines They are open weekdays from 4-7 PM, on Fridays from 2-9 PM, and on Saturdays from noon to 9 PM.
