Internet Buzzes Over Poster Slamming Moral Policing on Women

No matter how far we progress in any field, there is still a segment of people who believe in imposing restrictions on women’s clothing. Many still think that women should dress modestly for their safety. In Pune, a similar poster was seen, advising women on how to dress.

This poster is now going viral on social media. The reason for its virality is that alongside this poster, a group of women put up another poster with a brilliant reply.

The original poster, displayed under the name MAST Group, advised women to dress in a way that no one could look at them with evil eyes.

In response, another poster was put up under the name Trasth Group (Trast), which gave a powerful reply that was actually needed. Countering the MAST Group, the women wrote: “Men, keep your minds clean enough so that no matter what a woman wears, your eyes don’t fall on her. Courtesy of the Trasth Group.” On social media, a user shared these pictures on X’s (formerly Twitter) handle.

As soon as the photo appeared on social media, people rallied to support and praise the women’s group for their response. One commenter described it as a prime example of a creative and public-gendered interruption in real life, referencing the original Marathi poster seen in Pune city.

The two posters, which were originally written in Marathi, were reportedly seen near a walking path in Pune.

Another user suggested that the reply poster should have been larger and emphasized that dressing appropriately is equally important for men and women. They stated that this is not sexist but rather a matter of individual and societal etiquette that has become increasingly necessary. They concluded by stressing the importance of wearing the right attire for the right time and place.
