INS Visakhapatnam, India’s deadly destroyer, to be commissioned tomorrow

November will be a historic month for the Indian Navy with the commissioning of the first stealth guided-missile destroyer ship ‘Visakhapatnam’ of Project 15B in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tomorrow. INS Visakhapatnam is the flagship ship of the Visakhapatnam-class stealth guided-missile destroyer of the Indian Navy.

Earlier, media reports said that 39 naval ships and submarines are currently being built at various Indian shipyards, which is expected to give a big boost to India’s maritime capability. While the warship ‘Visakhapatnam’ will be commissioned by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the chief guest at the induction ceremony of Vela will be Admiral Karambir Singh, the Chief of the Navy. Both the platforms are built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. The induction ceremony will take place at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.

The commissioning of Visakhapatnam will confirm India’s presence among an elite group of nations with the capability to design and build advanced warships. “We are ready for the commissioning of INS Visakhapatnam on 21 November; Our indigenous content is the highest today. After commissioning, we will continue with some more trials and will be at one with the fleet,” said Captain Birender Singh Bains, Commanding Officer (Designated), INS Visakhapatnam to Zee News.

“We have improved our onboard machinery, various accessories, weapon systems and sensors; Our guns and torpedoes are fired,” said Captain Bains.

A variety of weapons and sensors make up the INS, including supersonic surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, medium and short-range guns, anti-submarine rockets and advanced electronic warfare and communication suits, Zee News reported. Huh. India’s biggest destroyer.
