Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday said that Pakistan’s investigative agencies are probing former Inter-Services Intelligence chief Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed and any progress in this regard will be shared.

The minister was speaking at a press conference in Islamabad after Section 144 was imposed in Lahore ahead of Aurat March and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) election rally.

Sanaullah said, “Only the organization can court martial Faiz.”

Sanaullah also said that whatever was being done was necessary and if needed, PTI chief Imran Khan would be arrested.

The minister further said that Maryam Nawaz rightly said about General Faiz Hameed: “We as politicians can only demand action against General Faiz.”

It is also believed that he was working for the previous army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, whom former prime minister Imran Khan blamed for his sacking in April last year.

The sources said General Hameed was accused of allegedly inciting mutiny in the army, extortion, interference in politics as well as activities related to terrorism led by the Pakistani Taliban in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region as well as conspiring against the army. I will be arrested.

Attacks carried out by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have increased in the country following a ceasefire between the militant group and security forces last year.

The sources further said that the establishment has collected some serious evidence against General Hameed. A decision will be taken soon on when and how his arrest will happen, he added.

One of the key allegations against him is that he not only benefited financially from the TTP ceasefire, but when it was decided that he would not be the army chief, the organization broke the ceasefire, resulting in the killings.

CNN-News18 did it earlier informed of Parliament also wanted to summon Hameed for his role in increasing incidents of terrorism in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif announced that General Hameed should be summoned to Parliament as he was “responsible for the growing militancy in Pakistan”.

Asif had said that he should be answerable for whatever he did and asked about his plans regarding TTP. The minister had also demanded that along with General Hameed, former PM Khan should also be summoned.
