Tamim missed the one-off Test against Zimbabwe earlier this month due to injury, but played all one-day internationals, saying he could “manage” the pain.

After scoring 20 runs and getting out for naught in the first two matches, the captain recorded his 14th ODI century, scoring more than a run in the third attempt.

He faced 97 balls in a 149-minute stand and hit eight fours and three sixes, after which he became one of four Bangladeshis caught by wicketkeeper Regis Chakabwa off Donald Tiripano.

Tamim will miss the three Twenty20 Internationals against Zimbabwe starting Thursday and will also play the home T20 series against Australia and New Zealand after being advised to rest for eight weeks.

He went on with the tourists at 204-3 and they looked set for victory in the final 10 overs, 51 needed off 60 balls, with six wickets in hand.

An unbeaten sixth-wicket partnership between Nurul Hasan (45) and Afif Hossain (26) assured Bangladesh of a clean sweep.

Wesley Madhevere (2–45) and Tiripano (2–61) were the most successful domestic bowlers and Luke Jongwe (1–44) was the second wicket taker.

– exceeds expectation –

Electing to bat after Tamim won the toss, Zimbabwe posted their highest score of the series, surpassing skipper Brendan Taylor’s expectations.

Taylor set his team a target of 280 as they tried to prevent three consecutive losses in the previous matches by 155 runs and three wickets.

Opener Chakabwa laid the groundwork for a scintillating 84, which included seven fours and a six, when Taskin Ahmed attempted to flick it to the leg-side.

His departure left Zimbabwe 172-5 and needing a strong sixth-wicket partnership which Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burle provided, adding 112 runs before falling apart.

Raza was first dismissed for 57 including seven fours and a six and Burle contributed 59 runs with four fours and four sixes.

Taylor, often batting for Zimbabwe, scored only 28 runs before being caught by Tamim off Mahmudullah Riyadh.

Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin were Bangladesh’s most successful bowlers, taking three wickets each.

The three-match series was part of the World Cup Super League, a feeder tournament that determined which seven teams, along with hosts India, earned direct qualification for the 2023 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the dates for the three T20 Internationals have been pushed to assist broadcasters and will now be played in Harare on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
