Indigo, Spicejet Suffered Most Technical Snags in 2022; Vistara, Air India Follow

The year 2022 has been a year of ups and downs for the aviation industry, but the difficulties in the functioning of these carriers continued. According to government data, domestic airlines faced 546 mechanical problems during flight operations last year. The country’s largest airline, IndiGo experienced 215 issues, followed by SpiceJet with 143 issues and Vistara with 97 issues. Air India faced 64 issues, while GoFirst and Akasa Air reported 7 and 6 issues, respectively, according to information provided by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. Air Asia (India) records 8 issues in 2022, Alliance Air 3, Fly Big 1, TruJet 1 and Bluedart Aviation 1.

A total of 1,090 problems were faced by the airlines in the last two years. Last year, the number of snags was slightly higher at 546 as compared to 544 in 2021. Asked whether more technical snags are reported in the country because of low-cost airlines, Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh replied in the negative. ,

“No sir, technical fault is experienced during the operation of the aircraft. It may be due to improper functioning/malfunction of systems/equipment/components on board the aircraft,” he said.

The minister also said that some technical glitches may require the flight crew to take action such as air turn back, aborted take-off, or go around keeping in view the safety of the operation and are usually serious. are taken to prevent incidents/accidents.

“Operators take action to rectify the technical fault based on the guidance provided by the manufacturer prior to further operation of the aircraft,” it added.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ensures that airlines and maintenance organizations continue to comply with the regulatory requirements against which they were initially approved through a system of surveillance, audits, spot checks and night surveillance Is.

“In case of non-compliance, DGCA ensures that rectification is done by the airlines/maintenance organization. DGCA initiates enforcement action against the organization/personnel found in violation, which includes warning, suspension and cancellation, apart from imposing financial penalty may join.” Singh said.
