Mumbai’s Marine Drive had come to a standstill as thousands of fans flocked to celebrate India’s ICC T20 World Cup triumph after a 17-year-long wait.

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has commended the dedicated efforts of the officers and staff who did a ‘phenomenal job’ during the team’s victory parade. Mumbai’s Marine Drive had come to a standstill as thousands of fans flocked to celebrate India’s ICC T20 World Cup triumph after a 17-year-long wait.

This resulted in the Mumbai Police issuing a traffic advisory to citizens while also overlooking the whole parade. Impressed by their work, Kohli shared a post on X saying, “Deep respect and heartfelt thanks to all the officers and staff of Mumbai Police and the Commissioner of Mumbai Police for doing a phenomenal job during Team India’s Victory Parade. Your dedication and service are highly appreciated. Jai Hind!”

Mumbai Police have now reacted to the humble gesture from Virat Kohli on X. Addressing Kohli’s achievement in the Caribbean, Mumbai Police opined the cricketer and his team deserved nothing less. “Your G.O.A.T feat deserved nothing less but a befitting bandobast. The Virat Celebration yesterday was our trophy,” they wrote.

A Rohit Sharma-led India overcame South Africa by seven runs to win the T20 World Cup for the second time in the nation’s history. The match was played on June 29 at the Kensington Oval Barbados. Following the victory, Rohit urged Indian fans to gather at the Marine Drive to celebrate the monumental win. “We want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. So let’s celebrate this win with a victory parade at Marine Drive and Wankhede on July 4th from 5:00 pm onwards. It’s coming home,” Rohit wrote in his post.

Obeying the skipper’s words, thousands flocked to the Marine Drive in support of their team. The victory parade began from Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium. Virat Kohli enjoyed his time thoroughly during the parade. The star was seen in the usual energetic self as he let loose. Kohli was also spotted snapping some pictures on his smartphone as the bus moved through the crowd.

The T20 World Cup final was also Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s last game for India in T20Is. The duo announced their retirement from the format right after winning the trophy.
