India’s campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024, is slowly coming to a close as we come down to the final stretch where the last set of athletes look to possibly bring a medal.
We will see some wrestling action once again in the Women’s 76kg freestyle event where Reetika Hooda will take on Nagy Bernadett from Hungary in the Round of 16 match in the afternoon.
Should she take the win, she will as expected, move up to the quarterfinal and a win there would also help her move up to the semifinals as well, all of which is set to take place on Saturday.
Reetika will look to draw some inspiration from the fine performances that were on show in various disciplines at the quadrennial event, but she will also be motivated to make a statement following Vinesh Phogat’s heartbreaking disqualification which has robbed her of the dream moment.
Speaking of Vinesh Phogat, another medal could be on the cards with her appeal being heard at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Her hearing had concluded on Friday with the verdict being expected to be announced on Saturday at the latest.
The day will start in the afternoon where we will see some golf where both Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will look to recover from their losses and put up a fine performance in the fourth round.
Both women are down in the 40s in the standings and they will need to pull out some fine performances to ensure that they can get back in the hunt. Both women have shown glimpses of potential but have not been able to compete with the top echelon of golfers in the ongoing competition.
