India’s representative in Ramallah Mukul Arya passed away. Condolences to the Palestinian Leadership

new Delhi: India’s representative in Ramallah Mukul Arya passed away on Sunday, tweeted External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Jaishankar tweeted, “Deeply shocked to learn about the passing away of Shri Mukul Arya, Representative of India in Ramallah. He was a bright and talented officer, he had a lot to offer. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. Om Peace,” Jaishankar tweeted.

The top leadership of Palestine also expressed grief over the passing away of Mukul Arya, India’s representative in Ramallah.

“On this sad occasion, Dr. Riyadh Al-Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, extends his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar and through him to the friendly Government of India, Representative Arya’s family and their relatives.” The foreign ministry and the expatriates said in a statement in Ramallah, Palestine, news agency PTI reported.

The ministry further said that it is in its official liaison with the Ministry of External Affairs to complete the formalities to take his body for burial to India.

“As soon as this painful news broke, immediate instructions were issued from President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Dr Muhammad Shtayyeh to all security, police and public officials,” the statement said.

The cause of his death was not immediately known.

Arya, 38, was a career diplomat in the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi, besides serving on India’s permanent delegation to UNESCO in Paris and India’s embassies in Kabul and Moscow.

According to the website of India’s Representative Office in Ramallah, Palestine, he was raised and educated in Delhi, studied economics at Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University, before joining the Indian Foreign Service in 2008.
