Delta Plus and Kappa Version Concern

Ninety-nine cases of highly transmissible delta plus type coronavirus have been detected in Tripura through genome sequencing of samples, state officials said. This is the first reported case of the deadly and highly contagious form of COVID-19 in the Northeast.

After the first two cases of the delta plus variant were detected in Uttar Pradesh, the kappa strain of COVID-19 has now been identified in the state. As per the IANS report, a 66-year-old man who tested positive for Kappa variant in UP’s Sant Kabir Nagar has died.

The strain was detected after their sample was collected during routine genome sequencing exercise on June 13 and sent to CSIR’s Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi.
