Indian Army troops have maintained a strong deterrent posture to prevent any hostile action to protect the local population along strategic towns and roads, an Indian Army official said.

Indian Army personnel deployed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as part of a UN mission repulsed a terrorist attack in the Central African country on Wednesday, Indian officials said.

Indian Army soldiers are deployed in that country as part of MONUSCO (United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo).

“On 22 May, a hostile armed group opened fire and attacked FARDC (Congolese Army) and MONUSCO positions without cause. Indian Army and soldiers of other nationalities under the United Nations flag repelled the attackers through swift and concerted firepower,” an Indian Army official said on Thursday.

“Indian Army troops maintain a strong deterrent posture to deter any hostile action to protect the local population along strategic towns and roads,” he said.
