Indian forces prevents infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch; 2 gunned down

New Delhi: On the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, Indian security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch area. Officials said that at least two intruders were killed in the operation.

“Operation Bahadur #Poonch Sector. Major infiltration attempt foiled in Poonch sector during the night of 17 Jul 23 in a joint operation by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice. Two intruders have been eliminated. Search operation is in progress,” Nagrota-based White Knight Corps wrote on its Twitter handle.

Earlier on July 10, the Indian Army had foiled another such incident where it had averted a major infiltration operation along the Line of Control in Nowshera sector of adjoining Rajouri district. The army gunned down the terrorist and recovered arms and ammunition.

Army officials have pointed out that since the commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra on July 1, there has been an increase in incidents of infiltration from Pakistan along the Indo-Pak borders in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, intelligence agencies have warned that Pakistan-based terrorists may attack the pilgrims.

Significantly, on Sunday, eight Central Reserve Armed Forces (CRPF) personnel were injured in an accident in Sonamarg district of Jammu and Kashmir while going for Amarnath pilgrimage.
