Chennaiyin FC announced the signing of defender Deepak Devrani a year ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season.

Chennaiyin FC on Wednesday announced the signing of a one-year deal with defender Deepak Devrani ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season. The 28-year-old will return to the country’s premier football league after playing a key role in Gokulam Kerala FC’s I-League winning campaign in 2020-21, in which he was voted for the team of the season, a press release said.

On Devrani’s signing, CFC co-owner Vita Dani said: “Someone who has come in as a key asset in the I-League title-winning campaign of last season (with Gokulam Kerala as winners) is a step up.” Will look forward to lifting it up. In the ISL. We are happy to enable him in this endeavour.” Devrani left for FC Pune City in the inaugural edition of the ISL in 2014, and now returns to the competition after seven years.

A seasoned campaigner, Devrani made her I-League debut with the Indian Arrows in 2012-13. Since then, he has been part of three I-League winning campaigns, his first arrival during the loan period at Mohun Bagan in 2014-15. With the likes of Edwin Sidney Vanspall, Reagan Singh, Salaam Ranjan Singh and Narayan Das in the CFC ranks, Devrani, with 74 I-League appearances, is expected to provide the two-time ISL champions’ defensive line the needed depth.
