Indian Army saves pregnant woman’s life, evacuates her amid heavy snow in Kashmir

Srinagar: The Indian Army on the night of 29 December 2022 sent a pregnant woman Smt Naseem Kham wife Mohd Rafiq Khan from Damni village of Nunwani Panchayat of Kalarus Block for emergency evacuation to Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre. Black Russia amid heavy snowfall. At 8.30 pm, the Indian Army received a call from an ASHA worker in Danmi requesting immediate medical assistance for a pregnant woman who was in critical condition. Due to heavy snowfall, the roads were completely blocked and a civil ambulance could not reach. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, medical and rescue teams from Kalarus COB were immediately rushed to the spot and the patient was safely taken to Kalarus Hospital where she delivered a baby girl.

Soon after the baby girl was born, the woman developed some complications for which she had to be immediately taken to SDH Kupwara for surgery. As the army team had already returned to the camp and the road was still blocked due to snowfall, a doctor from the PHC called the army for help.

The same army team from Kalarus camp was again sent by vehicle to Kalarus PHC and the woman was safely sent to SDH Kupwara in the night itself. The family and doctors expressed their gratitude to the army for its prompt action and timely assistance.
