The Indian Army carried out an 11-day military exercise in North Bengal in which almost all major arms and units of the force were involved, people familiar with the exercise said on Tuesday.

Several units of the Indian Air Force and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) were also part of the ‘Trishakti Prahar’ exercise that took place from January 21 to 31.

The exercise saw the deployment of various ground and air assets, including the latest generation fighter aircraft, helicopters, tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, medium and field artillery guns, infantry mortars, and various new generation infantry weapons and equipment, the people said. Last year too, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force conducted air penetration exercises around the Siliguri Corridor along the northern border with China.

“As part of the exercise, a rapid mobilization and deployment exercise was carried out at various locations across north Bengal,” said one of the people.

The exercise culminated with the Integrated Firepower Exercise at Teesta Field Firing Range on Tuesday.

“The objective of the firing exercise was to hone the firepower of the Indian Armed Forces and the CAPFs in an integrated battle,” the person said.

The exercise also saw the participation of new weapons and equipment inducted India The people said as part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ (Self-reliant India initiative).

He said that the Integrated Firepower exercise demonstrated the capability of the Indian Armed Forces in a coordinated application of assets of the Indian Air Force, Special Forces and Security Forces in a networked environment.
