India wins men’s hockey Olympic bronze in Tokyo: See full list of 12 medals

The last time India won an Olympic medal in hockey was at the 1980 Moscow Games. It was his 11th medal – a gold – at the Summer Games in this event.

India won 10 consecutive Olympics medals, including seven gold medals at the 1928 Amsterdam Games. His six consecutive Olympic gold medals ended in 1960 when he returned with a silver after losing to Pakistan in Rome.

Although they would continue to win medals regularly but after Moscow, a drought started which lasted for four decades. On August 5, 2021, the Manpreet Singh-led team put an end to that wait as they defeated Germany 5-4 in a thrilling encounter to clinch their 12th medal in Olympic history.
