India will keep its first dark sky reserve in Ladakh

To promote and promote astrophysics, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) Bengaluru and the Ladakh Administration and the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh. Hanle Dark Sky Reserve will be part of the Changhang Wildlife Sanctuary.

The LAHDC shared the news on its official Twitter account on Friday, June 17. “Chief Executive Councilor Tashi Gyalsson also attended the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding to establish the country’s first Dark Sky Reserve in Henley. , It was signed between the UT Administration, LAHDC Leh and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA).

So, Dark Sky Reserves are special areas that are protected and maintained for their astronomical value. These places are protected from light pollution and offer the best astro experience.
