The LAHDC shared the news on its official Twitter account on Friday, June 17. “Chief Executive Councilor Tashi Gyalsson also attended the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding to establish the country’s first Dark Sky Reserve in Henley. , It was signed between the UT Administration, LAHDC Leh and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA).

So, Dark Sky Reserves are special areas that are protected and maintained for their astronomical value. These places are protected from light pollution and offer the best astro experience.

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur also appreciated the initiative and expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the IIA professors and also mentioned that it will not only meet the needs of the scientific community but will also boost the economy of the region through tourism .
