India will get ‘desi’ 6G by 2024, says communication minister

Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that TRAI has already started the consultation process for 5G spectrum auction.

While we still haven’t seen a rollout of 5G in the country, there are already talks about “indigenously developed” 6G technology, which is targeted to be launched in late 2023 or early 2024. Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, ashwini vaishnav said during a webinar that 6 grams The development has already started in the country and it will be seen somewhere in the time frame of the end of 2024 or 2023. The Union Minister was speaking at a webinar organized by Financial Times and The Indian Express.

“6G development has already started. This time frame will be seen somewhere in 2024 or 2023-end. This is the direction we are heading in. we would have designed in India Telecom software to run networks, telecom equipment made in India, service telecom networks in India that could be global,” Vaishnav was quoted in The Indian Express report as saying. The communications minister also said that the launch of 5G also is on the cards, with development of a core software for the technology to be completed by the third quarter of next year.

Vaishnav also discussed the topic of 5G spectrum auction. The minister said that TRAI has already started the consultation process, which should end somewhere in February-March next year. The auction process will start in the second quarter of 2022, he said. Vaishnav also said that there will be more reforms for the telecom sector to resolve the long pending legacy issues.
