India vs Sri Lanka: Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan complete the chase in 15 overs

Shikhar Dhawan lauded India’s youth brigade after their win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Colombo, saying Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan effectively finished the target in 15 overs. Chasing 263 runs, Shaw scored 43 off 24 while Kishan scored 59 off 42 to register India’s big win. India chased it down in just 36.4 overs.

Dhawan himself scored an unbeaten 86 off 95 balls. He admitted that he had thought of a century, but said there were not enough runs in the chase for that to happen.

“When we batted, it was great to see Prithvi and Ishaan from the other end. I was telling them to take it easy, it is a huge force for them. The way young players play IPL, they get so much exposure, their confidence level is very high.”

“The way Prithvi and Ishaan batted, they ended the game in the first 15 overs. After that we were just knocking. I thought about it (his century) but there were not many runs left. So the focus was on getting not out. Even when Suriya came and batted it looked so easy. I was like maybe I have to improve my skills.”

Dhawan did not forget to give credit to the bowlers for leading India for the first time in England with the Test team. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each like Deepak Chahar. Krunal Pandya’s poor 10-1-26-1 spell was also crucial.

“All our boys, most of them have played before. They are very mature and aggressive. They were very happy with the way they played, it was tremendous. I knew there was a bit of turn in the wicket but the way our spinners bowled from the 10th over, they straightened us up. All three spinners Chahal, Kuldeep and Kunal.
