India captain Rohit Sharma on Sunday heaped praise on Ravindra Jadeja, saying the stylish all-rounder displayed his “selfless” attitude by urging the team management to declare when batting on 175.

India beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in Mohali on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

The hosts declared the second day at 574/8 before tea with Jadeja unbeaten on 175 and sharing a 103-run 9th wicket partnership with Mohammed Shami.

Many questions arose on social media when India declared Jadeja just 25 runs short of his maiden double century in Test cricket.

However, Rohit cleared the air saying that Jadeja decided to end the innings and sent Sri Lanka to bat in the final session in Mohali on Saturday.

“There was a question whether to declare or not, it was the team’s decision, Jadeja’s decision and it shows how selfless he is,” Rohit told reporters.

Notably, Jadeja himself clarified on Saturday that he had suggested an announcement to the team management.
