India vs South Africa: Wayne Parnell acknowledges Odisha’s ‘hospitality’ when asked this question

South African cricketer Wayne Parnell plays his first T20I in more than five years as he takes the field India At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Although South Africa won that match, they played their part well and picked up one wicket in their quota of four overs. Now as he landed in Cuttack for the second T20 International, a journalist looking for a bizarre answer asked him how he really felt about Odisha – the Indian state that is hosting the match.

Parnell being Parnell, brought out his diplomatic self while acknowledging the great hospitality of India which had won many international visitors.

“We feel very welcome here. My first time here. The place we are staying is very nice. India does two things very well – cricket and hospitality. At the pre-match press conference in Cuttack on Saturday “It’s been really awesome here,” Parnell said.

India were largely defeated in the first T20I in New Delhi and they would like to make amends as losing it would mean going 0-2 down in the five-match series.

He said, ‘This match is going to be important. India will definitely make a comeback. They are a quality side. We don’t expect anything else. Every single game is going to be very tough till the Bengaluru T20I. Obviously, it was a great win that night and we can take a lot of confidence from it but now we have a new place, new conditions so we have to adapt and start afresh.”

David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen helped South Africa register a sensational 7-wicket win over India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. It was a heart-wrenching defeat for India which were on the verge of breaking the world record for most consecutive wins in T20 cricket. Entering the match with 12 consecutive wins, a win helped India achieve a major milestone, however, Miller and van der Dussen spoiled the party for them.

“The conditions here are probably in favor of scoring more runs. It is about what we are going to get on that special day. It used to move around a bit so maybe we can use it to our advantage as well. It is difficult to assess. The side strip was quite green and with the overhead positions, it swung a bit. Maybe there will be some relief for the fast bowlers with the new ball. But the actual wicket, we have to see how it goes on match day.
