India vs South Africa 2021-22: ‘Mere according to me toh nai’ – vice captaincy won’t affect my batting, says KL Rahul

KL Rahul will be India’s new Test vice-captain when he takes the field against South Africa at Centurion. Although he was doing well in the Test match batting, still there are some questions. What are the chances that his batting will not be affected by the extra responsibility? Well, the 29-year-old gave a straight answer to the questions, replying that even as an opener he always had the responsibility of getting the team off to a great start. “Abhi came. Abi to match even didn’t play (I just landed in South Africa, I haven’t played a single game), he replied when asked about the possibility. “But I don’t think much has changed. Mere Apne Se To Nai (Don’t think so), I have always enjoyed the responsibility. Even as an opener you always have that responsibility You give your team a great start.”

He said that he sees more involvement on the field which will hopefully take the pressure off Virat Kohli a bit. “So my batting role remains the same, but the participation in the field increases slightly. Regarding strategy. Let’s see if I can give some information to the captain as part of the strategy. And that will take some of the pressure off Virat.”

The team benefitted from his stellar form in England where he scored 315 runs in four matches at an impressive average of 40. He also scored a century in the Mecca of cricket. He said that he would like to continue the run flow in South Africa as well.

“I don’t think so much. Like ‘I have performed in England, now I have to perform here’ (in South Africa). What if I don’t? My only thing is that I prepare to the best of my ability and myself As I said, my preparation here has been really good. I will try to give my best here like in England. The new ball is very important in these conditions and how do I get past that new ball. And try to score big for my team. Hopefully I can continue this form in England.

He said the team is ‘extra motivated’ to win a Test match in South Africa as much has been written about the team’s ability not to call off Test matches overseas. India has now won Test series everywhere except South Africa.

He said, ‘Yes it is a big series and as a team we have always taken the away series as a challenge. A lot has been said and written about Team India not winning the series away from India. And we have worked really hard for it and have won a series in England and Australia which gives us a lot of confidence. And we in South Africa look forward to this challenge. This gives us extra motivation to go out and learn from our past mistakes. And be better this time, try and enjoy and win the series. ,
