India vs New Zealand: KL Rahul ruled out of Kanpur Test due to injury – report

Team India He suffered a major setback ahead of the first Test against New Zealand starting on November 25 in Kanpur. According to the report of PTI, opener KL Rahul has been ruled out of the first match of the 2-match Test series due to injury.

A BCCI source told PTI, “KL Rahul is not playing the first Test. Rahul was missing from the Indian team’s customary practice session, which was attended by almost all the players at the Green Park stadium on Tuesday.

The nature and extent of Rahul’s injury could not be confirmed. Shubman Gill was seen opening the batting with Mayank Agarwal during the team’s net session as series opener Cheteshwar Pujara also batted.

It is understood that either Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav will make his Test debut and bat in the middle order. Shubman was expected to bat in the middle order but now in Rahul’s absence, the youngster will be asked to play in his normal opening slot.

Newly-appointed vice-captain in T20Is Rahul has been in a rich vein lately. He scored three consecutive half-centuries t20 world cup in the UAE before the end of India’s campaign in 2021, and took the momentum back home.

In the second T20I against New Zealand at Ranchi, Rahul hit a match-winning 65 off 49 balls as the Men in Blue beat the visitors by 5 wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead. He was rested for the third and final match of the series in Kolkata, and was replaced by Ishan Kishan. India won the match by 73 runs and defeated the Kiwis 3-0.
