India, US bilateral trade projected to reach $500 billion by 2025: Nitin Gadkari

Nitin Gadkari said that India and the US have an important role to play in the post-COVID economic recovery.

New Delhi:

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said bilateral trade between India and the US has grown from $16 billion to $149 billion in the last two decades.

“Trade is projected to reach $500 billion by 2025,” he said.

Addressing the 17th Indo US Economic Summit “Bouncing Back-Resilient Recovery Path Post COVID-19”, he said, “I firmly believe that two countries – India and the US – have an important role to play in the post-COVID economic recovery . There should be informed discussion at different levels as recovery requires new ideas and approaches. Since the global recession in the 1920s, the present situation is the greatest challenge mankind has ever faced.”

“We need a new thought process and a creative agenda to see a new path to recovery. The world’s largest vaccination campaign is underway in the country to create a pandemic-free India,” he said.

He added, “I sincerely hope that more and more US investors will invest in road and highway projects in India, which is a goldmine for all stakeholders. They have a tremendous opportunity to invest in road infrastructure.”

He also asked American investors, especially insurance and pension funds, to invest in India’s road and highway infrastructure.
