India U-19 World Cup winning captain Yash Dhul becomes ‘state icon’ for promoting voter awareness in Delhi

election Commission India Cricketer Yash Dhul has been appointed as Delhi’s “state icon” to promote voter awareness among youth, an election body in New Delhi said on Thursday.

The Chief Electoral Officer’s office also said in a statement that Dhul “will work in close coordination with the CEO’s office to increase voter registration and electoral participation among youth”.

Dhul, “ECI State Icon for NCT of Delhi” called on Ranbir Singh, CEO, Delhi on Thursday. Singh congratulated him for his brilliant performance in cricket at such a young age.

Dhul made his first-class debut for the Delhi cricket team in the 2021–22 Ranji Trophy. He is the 2022 ICC Under-19. was also the captain of India for Cricket World Cup in West Indies. India has won the prestigious World Cup 2022 tournament.

He informed that during the meeting with CEO here, various issues related to voter registration, especially for young and new voters, and role of Dhul in educating and motivating youth to enroll in the electoral rolls were discussed.

Dhul assured the CEO to provide all possible support to help in increasing the registration of young or new voters and to increase the electoral participation especially among the college students.

The CEO’s office said in a statement that the cricketers also agreed to participate in college-level voter awareness programmes.
