Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has joined the Indian cricket team ahead of the warm-up match against Leicestershire on Thursday. Ashwin tested positive for COVID-19 and missed a flight to England along with other players. However, the BCCI made some special arrangements for the veteran spinner after his recovery from Kovid-19.
Jayant Yadav was kept as standby after Ashwin failed to recover in time. The Haryana spinner was called to the NCA in Bangalore. However, that option has been ruled out as Ashwin made a full recovery and reached Leicester.
Meanwhile, the Indian Test team will take on England in the fifth Test remaining from last year’s tour, which was postponed after several COVID cases were reported at the visitors’ camp. The match is to be played on 1 July at Edgbaston.
The BCCI on Thursday shared some pictures from Leicester in which Ashwin was also present at the team hurdle. However, Ashwin did not find a place in India’s XI for the warm-up match announced on Wednesday.

The match will be played with 13 players per side to provide more flexibility and help manage the bowling workload.
