India successfully test-fired Pinaka-ER, a multi-barrel rocket launcher system. India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India on Saturday successfully test-fired the Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher System with extended range at the Pokhran range.
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said in a statement that the successful trials of majority of Extended Range (Pinaka-ER), Area Denial Munition (ADM) and indigenously developed fuses have been carried out in various test ranges.
The system has been jointly designed by DRDO’s laboratories – Ordnance Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune.
After DRDO established the performance efficacy of the enhanced range of Pinaka, the technology of the system was transferred to the industry.
The industry partner has manufactured the advanced Pinaka Mk-1 rocket in collaboration with DRDO during production and quality assurance.
In continuation of the transfer of technology absorption, the rockets developed by the industry have gone through a process of performance evaluation and quality certification.
Hand holding during production, quality assurance for bulk production and launch coordination is being provided by DRDO design team and designated quality assurance agencies for the system.
DRDO in association with the Army conducted a series of performance evaluation trials of these industry manufactured rockets at field firing ranges over the past three days. In these trials, the advanced range Pinaka rockets with different warhead capabilities were tested at different ranges.
All test objectives were satisfactorily met. A total of 24 rockets were fired for various ranges and warhead capabilities to meet the objectives of accuracy and continuity.
With this, the initial phase of technology absorption of Pinaka-ER by the industry partner has been successfully completed, readying the industry partner for series production of the rocket system.
Pinaka-ER is an improved version of the previous Pinaka version which has been in service with the Indian Army for the past decade.
The system has been designed in the light of the emerging requirements with advanced technologies increasing the range.
The Area Denial Munition (ADM) variant of the ammunition for Pinaka, designed by ARDE, Pune and manufactured by industry partners under technology transfer, was successfully fired at the Pokhran Field Firing Range. These tests are part of the performance appraisal under Technology Absorption.
The indigenously developed proximity fuse for the Pinaka rocket has also been tested. ARDE, Pune has developed different fuses for Pinaka rocket for a variety of applications. Following the design validation tests, the dynamic performance evaluation of these fuses is followed by flight testing. Consistency in the performance of the fuses has been established in frequent flight tests.
These have been developed for the first time in the country through dedicated indigenous research and development efforts. These indigenously developed fuses will replace imported fuses and will save foreign exchange.
ARDE also designed miniature fuses for ADM. The performance of dual-purpose direct-action self-destruction (DASD) and anti-tank munition (ATM) fuses was evaluated during the current flight tests and the results were satisfactory. All the mission objectives were successfully completed in all the above tests.
