India on Wednesday successfully test-fired Agni-5 surface-to-surface ballistic missile from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. It was tested at 7.50 pm.

The missile, which uses a three-stage solid-fuel engine, is capable of hitting targets up to a range of 5,000 km with very high accuracy.

The successful launch is in line with India’s policy of “reliable minimum deterrence” which underlines its commitment to ‘no first use’.
