India reports 501 covid deaths in a single day, 12,516 coronavirus cases in last 24 hours

Corona Case Update: The country has been able to keep the daily number of COVID cases under 15,000 even after the festive season. In the last 24 hours, 12,516 new cases of corona virus have been reported in India and 501 deaths have occurred.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country’s active caseload now stands at 1,37,416 which is the lowest in 267 days.

The daily increase in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 35 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 138 consecutive days.

The ministry said that active cases comprise 0.40 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.26 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

Kerala

Kerala on Thursday recorded 7,224 fresh coronavirus infections and 419 deaths, taking the caseload to 50,42,082 and the death toll to 35,040.

With 7,638 more people recovering from the virus since Wednesday, the total recoveries rose to 49,36,791 and active cases to 69,625, an official press release said.

Of the 419 deaths, 47 were designated as COVID deaths in the last few days and 372 after receiving appeals based on fresh guidelines from the Center and the Supreme Court’s directions.

In the last 24 hours, 73,015 samples were tested.

Among the 14 districts, Thiruvananthapuram reported the highest number of cases at 1,095, followed by Ernakulam with 922 and Thrissur with 724.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra reported 997 new coronavirus cases and 28 deaths on Thursday, taking the number of infections to 66,21,420 and the death toll to 1,40,475, the state health department said.

On Wednesday, the state recorded 1,094 coronavirus cases and 17 deaths.

A total of 1,016 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cured cases in Maharashtra to 64,64,948, taking the active cases to 12,352 in the state, the department said.

Maharashtra’s COVID-19 recovery rate now stands at 97.64 per cent, while the case fatality rate stands at 2.12 per cent.

With 1,08,086 new tests, the number of samples tested so far in Maharashtra has gone up to 6,36,30,632, the department said.

On Thursday, six districts and four municipal bodies in Maharashtra did not report any new COVID-19 cases.

Mumbai district reported the highest number of 276 new infections in the state, followed by Pune district with 85 cases.
