India recorded 8,954 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. 10,207 people were cured, 267 people died

New Delhi: According to a report by news agency ANI, India recorded 8,954 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. 267 people succumbed to the infection while 10,207 people recovered from the disease. The active caseload currently stood at 99,023.

The total recovery so far in the country was 3,40,28,506 and the current recovery rate is 98.36 percent.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of samples tested in the last 24 hours was 11,08,467.

PIB said the daily positivity rate was 0.81 per cent which was less than 2 per cent for the last 58 days. While the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.84 per cent which was less than 1 per cent for the last 17 days.

The vaccination figures in the country increased by 80,98,716 and the cumulative vaccination figures of the country was 1,24,10,86,850.

Informing Parliament on Tuesday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that so far no case of Omicron type of Kovid-19 has been detected in the country.

According to the Indian Express report, the Maharashtra government has tightened the rules for international passengers coming to the state. All travelers arriving from ‘at-risk countries’ will have to undergo a mandatory seven-day institutional quarantine.

Domestic air travelers arriving in the state will also have to submit a negative RT-PCR test report, irrespective of their vaccination status. Samples should be tested within 48 hours of arrival in the state.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has listed 11 countries as ‘at risk’ countries. Passengers coming to India or in transit from these countries will have to undergo tests at the airport and wait till the result. If the test comes back positive, the patient will be sent to a different isolation facility and the sample will be sent for genome sequencing. If the result is negative, the person will be kept in home quarantine for 7 days and will be tested again on the 8th day as scheduled on the official website.

Countries classified as ‘at risk’ are all countries in Europe and the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel.
