Addressing a Republic Day event at the university, Najma Akhtar said Jamia is committed to providing its students with state-of-the-art learning experiences, intellectual freedom and opportunities to conduct significant research.

Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar said this on Thursday India Ready to face challenges like climate change and international security during its annual G20 presidency.

Addressing a Republic Day function at the university, Akhtar said Jamia is committed to providing its students with cutting-edge learning experiences, intellectual freedom and opportunities to conduct significant research.

Najma Akhtar said that whatever India is achieving today or poised to achieve is because it is a “true democracy and a successful republic”. He said India has been honored with the chairmanship of the G20 under the “dynamic and proactive leadership” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The G20, an intergovernmental grouping, has 19 members apart from the European Union, and is chaired by each member state on a rotating basis for one year. Brazil will chair the group in 2023.

Akhtar said the country is determined to “address global challenges such as declining global economy, climate change and international security that pose serious challenges to humanity through the G20 presidency.”

“We are a responsible nation trying to show our leadership potential and approach to the world as a whole. Our G20 mantra is ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future’,” she said.

The function began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Najma Akhtar in the forecourt of Dr MA Ansari Auditorium of the University.

The national anthem was sung after the flag hoisting.

The VC in his address also elaborated on the recent achievements of Jamia such as being among the top three universities in NIRF, A++ grade awarded by NAAC, and the highest ever ranking of the university for its outstanding performance in imparting quality education, teaching and research.
