India orders high-level probe into accidental missile launch in Pak territory, regrets

“On 9 March 2022, during routine maintenance, a technical fault resulted in an accidental firing of the missile,” the Defense Ministry said in a release.

“The Government of India has taken a serious view and ordered a High Level Court of Inquiry,” the ministry said.

The Defense Ministry said that it has been learned that the missile landed in an area of ​​Pakistan.

“While this incident is extremely regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that no one has lost their lives in the accident,” the ministry said.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan summoned India’s charge d’affaires and expressed extreme displeasure over the alleged unprovoked violation of its airspace by an Indian-origin supersonic flying object.

Islamabad demanded a full and transparent investigation into the matter.

According to a statement published after midnight, the Indian diplomat was informed of the alleged violation of his airspace by a supersonic flying object of Indian origin on Thursday night, which took place on March 9 at 6:43 pm (local time) in Suratgarh, India. had entered Pakistan from by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, news agency PTI reported.

The object fell to the ground near Mian Chunnu town in Pakistan’s Punjab region at around 6:50 pm on the same day, causing damage to civilian property.

The Foreign Office (FO) in its report was quoted as saying by PTI, “The Indian diplomat was apprised that the indiscriminate launch of the flying object not only caused damage to civilian property but also put human life in danger.”
