Nasser Hussain feels that any team can trouble India in the knockout matches due to the uncertainty of the T20 format.

ICC group stage t20 world cup Lower-ranked teams have been included in 2021, with Sri Lanka, Namibia, Scotland and Bangladesh reaching the Super 12s. Namibia and Scotland are placed in the same group as India. While many experts believe that Team India is at the fore in lifting the ICC trophy, former England captain Nasser Hussain has a different opinion. For him, while India is one of the favourites, he would not call them clear favorites as any team can trouble them in the knockout games due to the unpredictability of the T20 format.

“They are the favourites. I wouldn’t say clear favorites because of the format. The shorter the game, the things can happen. An individual talent, 70 or 80 or 3 deliveries suddenly turns it the other way around. So no one can help India any more. Can upset in a knockout match,” shared his opinion on Sky Cricket.

Another reason for Nasser’s doubts on India is the team’s record in knockout games of ICC tournaments since their last win in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Post that India have reached the knockout stage of every ICC tournament only to finally give up.

They lost in the semi-finals at the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups and the 2016 T20 World Cup. While they were runners-up in the 2014 T20 World Cup, the 2017 Champions Trophy and the inaugural World Test Championship.

“His record in ICC tournaments is really not good and he will have to deal with that,” Hussain said.

India will begin their World Cup campaign with a high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, October 24. The match will be live from 7:30 PM.
