India leading the world with over 70 start-ups to cross $1 billion in value: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio address to the nation, Mann Ki Baat, said that this is the era of start-ups. According to a PTI report, he said that India is the world leader in this field, with more than 70 start-ups crossing the $1 billion valuation mark.

He emphasized on three things for a country with a large youth population. – IDeez and innovation, passion to take risks and a ‘can do’ spirit. He said that when all these three things come together, miracles happen and often results not imagined are achieved.

The Prime Minister said, “Nowadays we hear about start-ups all around us. It is true that this is the era of start-ups and it is also true that India is in a way a world leader in this field.” ,

He noted an increase in the use of the word ‘unicorn’ as more and more start-ups are receiving record investments and entering the unicorn club in India.

He said, “The reach of start-ups has increased even in small towns of the country. Nowadays the word unicorn is very much discussed. Unicorn is a start-up which is valued at $1 billion, around Rs 7,000 crore.”

Talking about pollution, PM Modi cited the example of a young man who has come up with a solution to the problem. He said that the youth have introduced a technology that can cut emissions from buses by 40 percent.

Prime Minister Modi also cautioned that the pandemic is not over yet and “it is the responsibility of all of us to take precautions.”
