India’s two-year term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council began on January 1, 2021. August’s presidency will be India’s first presidency during its 2021-22 term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.

India will chair the council again in December next year, the last month of its two-year term. During his presidency, India will hold high-level signing programs in three key areas – maritime security, peacekeeping and counter-terrorism.

In the video message, Tirumurti said maritime security is a high priority for India “and it is important for the Security Council to take a holistic approach to the issue”.

Peacekeeping is a theme “close to our hearts, given our own long and pioneering partnership”, he said, adding that India will focus on how to ensure the safety of peacekeepers, especially the use of improved technology. And how to bring criminals. For justice against peacekeepers.
