HIGHLIGHTS

  • India extended their winning run in T20Is to 12
  • It was also their 40th T20I win at home, the most in world cricket
  • This is also India’s 17th win against Sri Lanka in T20I cricket

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team registered their 12th consecutive T20I win to equal Afghanistan’s record for most T20I wins on a trot by a Test-playing nation.

The unbeaten run began during the T20 World Cup as India shook off decisive defeats to Pakistan and New Zealand to win their remaining three matches. India were knocked out before the business end of the tournament but the Men in Blue have been clinical in the shortest format of the game ever since.

The Indian juggernaut in T20Is continued as they hammered Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the 3rd T20I in Dharamsala on Sunday. The Asian giants, ranked No. 1 in the world, completed a 3-0 sweep of the series, their third successive sweep of a T20I series since the T20 World Cup last year.

Dasun Shanka’s valiant 74 went in vain as Sri Lanka was not able to defend 146 in the 3rd T20I, losing all three matches on their tour so far.

Rohit Sharma, who took over from Virat Kohli as India’s full-time T20I captain after the World Cup, led India to 3-0 sweep of New Zealand at home last year. He was instrumental in helping India hammer West Indies 3-0 earlier this month as well.
