India-Central Asia Summit: PM Modi will host the meeting today, Presidents of 5 countries will attend the virtual summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host the first India-Central Asia Summit on Thursday. The Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will participate in this virtual meeting. In this meeting, apart from regional security and Afghanistan, the focus will be on the issues of increasing trade and connectivity, developing partnership, enhancing cultural ties.

The Indian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that this will be the first meeting of its kind at the level of Heads of State of India and Central Asian countries. This summit shows India’s growing partnership with Central Asian countries.

PM Modi visited these countries in 2015
PM Modi had made a historic visit to all the Central Asian countries in 2015. Since then, high-level talks are being held with these countries at the bilateral and multilateral level. The meeting between the foreign ministers of these countries played a very important role in improving relations between India and Central Asia. The third meeting of this series was held in New Delhi from 18 to 20 December 2021.

National Security Advisors of Central Asian countries met in the regional security meeting on the issue of Afghanistan in New Delhi on 10 November 2021. A common strategy regarding Afghanistan was decided in this meeting.
