New York: India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti on Monday said India has played an active role in shaping the global counter-terrorism strategy.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Tirumurti said, “With regard to terrorism, India has always been at the forefront of pursuing a joint and collective effort to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. The deteriorating situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover has attracted global attention and according to Tirumurti, terrorism-related issues will be of utmost importance at the UNGA.
“On Afghanistan, our Prime Minister has already made his stand clear in his recent address at the SCO summit last week,” the Indian envoy said.
Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)-Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Outreach Summit on Afghanistan, the Prime Minister drew attention to issues related to Afghanistan’s development, noting that the transition of power in Afghanistan is not inclusive and has occurred. He also talked about resolution 2593, which was passed by the UNSC under the chairmanship of India on August 30, 2021, with Russia and China abstaining from voting.
The resolution demands that Afghan territory should not be used to threaten or attack any country or to finance terrorist acts.
“We also have an important resolution, as you know, it was a resolution passed under our presidency at the UN Security Council on 30 August, and it is in many ways the benchmark for the situation in Afghanistan. And we also see one. There is a central role for the United Nations in this context, even for the international community to come and address them jointly and effectively,” Tirumurthy said.
He further reiterated that India will stop all attempts to undermine the collective resolve of member states to fight terrorism or provide justification for terrorism.
Elaborating on the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the most important issues on the upcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 25 September, he said, “India has been at the forefront of the fight The COVID pandemic.
