Rohit Sharma will begin his captaincy stint in One Day Internationals with a three-match series against West Indies. Playing the first ODI on Sunday, February 06, both India and West Indies will be hoping for a win as the series plays a vital role in the path to the World Cup 2023.
India will be without the services of four players including Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Navdeep Saini due to Covid-19. In the absence of three batsmen, India included Mayank Agarwal and Ishan Kishan in the team. Ishaan will open the innings for the hosts along with Rohit as Mayank is in quarantine. Meanwhile, India are likely to play with only five pure batsmen.
West Indies, on the other hand, will have all their main players available for selection during the first One Day International. The team would be hoping for good performance from Nicholas Pooran as he was the leading run-scorer in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against England.
