Saju Samson was injured while attempting a diving catch in the first over of Sri Lanka’s chase of 163.

The BCCI confirmed on Wednesday night that Sanju has been ruled out of the remaining 3-match series due to injury and has been advised rest and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Vidarbha’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma has been included in India’s squad.

“Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. During the first match, Samson suffered an injury to his left knee while trying to bowl near the boundary rope.scheduled tribe T20I at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai,” read the BCCI official statement.

The BCCI medical team took him to Mumbai this afternoon for scans and expert opinion and he has been advised rest and rehabilitation.

The incident happened in the first over when Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka got an edge off Hardik Pandi’s delivery. The ball went up in the air while Samson dived to catch the ball. Although he caught hold of it, it slipped out of his hands as it fell to the ground. The Kerala cricketer continued fielding but, it was learned later, he had developed swelling in his knee which required medical attention.

India’s updated squad for Sri Lanka T20Is: Hardik Pandya (Captain), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (VC), Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel , Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, Mukesh Kumar.

Sanju couldn’t contribute much with the bat, scoring just 5 runs in 6 balls. Deepak Hooda and Akshar Patel stitched together a quick-fire half-century partnership that helped India reach 162/5 in 20 overs.

Hooda scored an unbeaten 41 off 23 balls, hitting one four and four sixes, while Patel scored an unbeaten 31 off 20 balls (three fours and a six) as India recovered from a precarious 94/5 in the 15th over to take a good total. Scored.

With a modest 162 runs to defend, India needed to take early wickets to put Sri Lanka under pressure and they did just that, eventually bowling them out for 160 in 20 overs.
