IND vs SL: Lasith Embuldeniya’s 45 in his 100th Test puts Virat Kohli in disbelief – WATCH

Virat Kohli’s century drought in international cricket continues as he failed to convert another good start into a big total to break the three-figure mark. The former India captain, playing his 100th Test, was dismissed for 45 by Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya.

He was deceived by Ambuldeniya’s sharp turn and was dismissed for 45 runs in 76 balls. After being dismissed, Kohli could not believe it and shook his head before returning to the pavilion.

This was not the first time that Ambuldeniya had troubled Kohli in the match. He went off the mark with a lead while trying to flick Embuldeniya’s delivery, but luckily, the ball landed in the safe zone.

Meanwhile, Kohli achieved another milestone during the first day of the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka. Playing his 100th Test match, Kohli completed 8000 runs in Test cricket and became the sixth Indian batsman to achieve the feat. In the 39th over of the innings, Kohli directed the ball towards point and took a single and entered the 8k club. The batting maestro took 169 innings to break this mark.

He is the fifth fastest Indian to score 8000 runs as batting great Sachin Tendulkar has achieved the feat in 154 innings, followed by current India head coach Rahul Dravid (157 innings).

The 33-year-old has also become the second player to reach the historic milestone in the 100th Test. He joins the great Australian captain Ricky Ponting in this list. Ponting made his 8k club debut against South Africa in Sydney in 2006.

Kohli was honored by the BCCI on Friday in memory of his historic 100th Test match – the first against Sri Lanka. Head coach Rahul Dravid presented a special cap to Kohli in the presence of his Indian teammates, wife Anushka Sharma and BCCI officials.
