IND vs SL 1st Test Day 1: Sri Lanka bounce back with Virat Kohli, Hanuma Vihari’s wicket at tea as India score 199/4

Sri Lanka managed to make a comeback in the second session of the first Test against India as they dismissed Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari before the tea break. The Indian pair looked in good shape with a 90-run partnership for the third wicket. Playing his 100th Test, Kohli was dismissed for 45 off 76 balls as he was deceived by a sharp turn from Lasith Ambulendia and was bowled, leaving the premier batsman stunned and he stood in disbelief . He went back for the historic match to a thunderous applause from the audience.

Vihari scored his fifth Test half-century but went away soon after Kohli was dismissed as he pulled an incoming delivery from left-arm pacer Viswa Fernando to his stumps. Batting at number three, he scored 58 runs in 128 balls.

Meanwhile, India reached 199 for four at tea after new captain Rohit Sharma elected to bat after winning the toss at the start of the two-match series in Mohali. Rishabh Pant for 12 runs and Shreyas Iyer on 14 runs at the crease.

In his historic match, Kohli completed 8000 runs in Test cricket and became the sixth Indian batsman to achieve the feat. In the 39th over of the innings, Kohli directed the ball towards point and took a single and entered the 8k club. The batting maestro took 169 innings to break this mark.

He hit five fours at the crease in his innings of 76 balls and encouraged every run.

Earlier, Rohit, who had replaced Kohli as captain in all formats last month, hit Lahiru Kumara for two consecutive boundaries, including a well-executed pull, but was soon followed by a short-ball smash. And was caught at long leg in the attempt.
