crew India Captain Rishabh Pant admitted that his bowlers failed to execute their plan while defending a mammoth 212-run target against South Africa in the first T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. The Indian bowlers found it difficult to bowl to South Africa’s David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen as they dodged them around the park to help their team take a 1-0 lead. This was South Africa’s biggest run chase in T20I cricket so far.
Pant heaped praise on the Proteas pairing for an unbeaten 131-run partnership to take the game out of India’s reach.

“We had enough on the board, but I think we were a little off execution. But sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition. David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen batted well,” Pant said after the match. said in the presentation.
The stand-in India captain said the wicket improved in the second innings which helped the Proteas batsman chase down a huge total.
“When we batted, the slower ball was working, but the wicket got better in the second innings. Mostly we executed our plans (for Miller) but the wicket kept getting better and better,” he added
It was a heartbreak for Team India which was so close to creating history but Miller van der Dussen had other plans. Before the clash, India won 12 T20I matches in a row and a win on Thursday helped it set the record for most consecutive wins in T20I cricket.

Meanwhile, the Indian batsmen did well despite the pitch giving some turn to the spinners in the first innings. Ishan Kishan A scintillating knock of 76 from 48 balls before new captain Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya’s pyrotechnics put India at 211 for 4.
While Kishan dazzled at the top, Pant (29 off 16) and Pandya (31 not out off 12) added 46 runs in slog overs to take India past 200.
Pant further said that his team will come up with a better plan if they get stuck in this situation in future.
Pant concluded, “We were very happy with Kool but the next time we are in a similar situation, we will do better.”
