IND vs SA: Want these changes for the third ODI, former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin

With India looking for a consolation win in the third ODI against South Africa in Cape Town, former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin has called for some big changes in the starting XI for the visitors.

Replying to a fan on Twitter during his Q&A session, the 58-year-old said that he wants Team India to rest their senior fast bowlers and give a chance to the young guns.

“Play Navdeep Saini and Siraj. And rest Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar,” Azharuddin said in response to a fan.

Azharuddin, who on Saturday said that he wants Rohit Sharma to take over India’s Test captaincy, also asked whether veteran pacer Umesh Ayadav should be brought back in India’s ODIs. Umesh is not a part of the ODI series, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Pranandhan Krishna, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj and Navdeep Saini are India’s fast bowling options in this series.

Indian bowling in the ODI series so far has been toothless. The fast bowlers have taken just four wickets – Jasprit Bumrah three and Shardul Thakur one – as India lost by 31 runs and seven wickets respectively at Paarl last week. Despite Bumrah having a world class bowler and Bhuvneshwar a seasoned fast bowler, India have managed to pick up just one wicket with the new ball for 39 and 66 runs in the two-match powerplays respectively. In the second game, the opening pair of Quinton de Kock and Janman Malan put on a 132-run partnership.
